About Roing

Roing is the district headquarters of the Lower Dibang Valley district in Arunachal Pradesh. It is the census town and is one of the sub divisions of the Lower Dibang Valley district. The Roing circle was opened in 1951. The town is the only commercial centre to both the Upper and the Lower Dibang Valley district.

Roing is located at the foothills of the Mishmi hills. To the north of Roing flows the Eje river. The river swells in summer. The villages of Adi Padams that extend to the border of Assam lie to the south. Roing is quite a plain area compared to other places of Arunachal Pradesh which are majorly hilly areas.

Roing is inhabited by the tribal Idu-Mishmi community. Tribal culture is predominant in Roing. The tribe has its distinct cultural heritage. People observe their specific festivals and way of lives. Reh is the most important festival celebrated by the tribal community during the month of February.
